Based on its unique geographic location and regional advantage, the City has become the transportation hub joining the south and north of Tianshan Mountains together and connecting Xinjiang and the inland. Since the second land bridge between Asia and Europe, the section of Lan-Xin Railway from Urumqi to Alataw Shankou was linked up, Urumqi City has become an important door opened to the countries bordering West China as well as a window for external economic and cultural exchanges. The 2nd China-Eurasia Expo kicked off in Xinjiang International Exhibition Center on September 2, 2012. A total of 120 contracts on domestic and foreign economic and technological cooperation projects were signed by Urumqi Trade Mission, of which the total value was up to 114.7 billion dollars, an increase of 32.91% over the first China-Eurasia Expo. In the year 2012, the GDP of the city has reached RMB 206,000 million, 17.3% increase compared to the previous year. Imports and exports for the year totaled 10.39689 billion dollars.
