1. Organising a Paragraph
- A paragraph is composed of a number of sentences.
- Introduce the subject in the first sentence. It's usually the topic sentence.
- Following sentences will be supporting sentences.
- Summarise your ideas in the final sentence. It can be your own opinion.
2. Using Phrases to Talk about Past Experiences
- Make sure you are talking about a completed action.
- Use the Past Simple and Past Continuous. (I was… / I went to…)
- Use past time expressions. (last year, two years ago, in 2013 etc.
)
3. Using Phrases to Talk about Recent Experiences
- Make sure you are talking about an action which started in the past and still in progress at present or affecting the present time.
- Use the Present Perfect Simple. (I have been…/ I have worked…)
- Use perfect time expressions (just, already, yet, recently, lately, for, since etc.)
Write a two-paragraph article (80-90 words) about what you did last year and what you have done since the beginning of this year.
Your paragraph will be published in a school magazine which university students read.
