    My sons mother left when he was 3, he's 25 now and I never once said anything bad about his mum, I always said his mum loved him but didn't want to live with me anymore. He said over beer a couple of years ago how that was one of the things that impressed him most about me. Best of luck for the future.

    Similar situation here. My dad walked out on us when I was 4 and went across the country. My mother never spoke an ill word about him. She just said that they lived very different kinds of lives and couldn't live together. First time I met him as an adult, a few beers in, and he starting in with little insults about my mother back from when they were married. I never had more respect for my mother than at that moment.
